Weka – Gallirallus australis

Creative Commons License

This is the Weka, a flightless bird from New Zealand. He/she wasn’t afraid at all. It was wandering around a parking place and i could get very close. Beautiful bird, which is endangered due to its flightless nature. Made it very easy for Maori’s and later for the Europeans to catch, not to mention the pets they brought with em.
